DIY: Gentle
Facial Scrub

Summer is officially here and soft, naturally radiant skin is all the rage. If it isn’t already, a gentle facial scrub should be a staple in your skincare routine. The dead skin cells that have accumulated on the surface can make your complexion look dull. By using a physical exfoliator to buff away the dead skin cells, it will create a beautiful glow and leave your skin feeling soft and refreshed.

Here is a facial scrub that you can make at home and customize to your liking. We have chosen to use coconut oil in this recipe because coconut oil is full of powerful fatty acids that are beneficial to your skin. Make sure to use fine salt and sugar, avoid using coarse ingredients as they are too abrasive for your skin and will do you more harm than good! Play around with this recipe and adjust it to your liking, feel free to add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oils or swap out the coconut oil for any oil of your choice!

PRO TIP: Add a bit of an exfoliating serum (e.g. Power Trip) to the mask before applying to boost the efficacy!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • ½ tbsp sugar
  • ½ tbsp salt

Making the scrub:

In a bowl, mix the salt, sugar, and coconut oil. The mixture should resemble a paste, but it should be thin enough to spread easily on the skin. Add a little more oil if you prefer the consistency to be a little runnier, or add a little more sugar if you feel it’s too thin. Once you have the consistency you like, apply a generous amount to clean, dry skin, and leave for 10 minutes. To remove, apply a small amount of water and gently rub in circular motions. Rinse and pat dry.

This recipe should make enough for at least 2 uses. Store in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator until your next use!
